The intersect of Latinx* Chicago Culture
Chicagotería is a project that began in 2013 by designer and illustrator Missy Rosa. It is a Chicago version of Lotería, the iconic Mexican game of chance. Each illustration is based on Missy's experiences growing up Latina in a city she holds dear to her heart. Her goal is to complete all 54 card illustrations and create a game that we can all enjoy playing.
Melissa "Missy" Rosa is a Chicago native born on the northside to a Mexican mother and a Puerto Rican father. Growing up in a household immersed in Latinx culture she learned to appreciate her ethnicity and understood the importance it played in cultivating her identity as a Latina and a Chicagoan. Her creativity is solely inspired and nurtured by her experiences in the city. She considers herself a true Chicago artist.
Missy is a proud product of Chicago Public Schools and holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
